Childhood Speech Development 

FOR LANGUAGE PROFESSIONALS in the field of EDUCATION and HEALTH CARE

This workshop will study child development from 0 to 5 years of age, with a special emphasis on speech development, and a summary of the evaluation methods used to determine eligibility for special education services for the 0-3 age group and the 3-5 age group.

Presented by: Sierra Armién Funk, M.Ed. 

Sierra Armién Funk, M.Ed. began working in education in 2000, serving English Language Learners and their parents in a variety of roles. She trained as an Interpreter and Translator, completing the Translation and Interpreting Certificate program in 2010. Sierra began working in the North Saint Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale school district’s early childhood program as a Cultural Liaison and Interpreter and now serves as Bilingual Parent Educator in the the Early Childhood Family Education program. She completed her Master’s in Education and MN state teaching licensure in Parent and Family Education in 2016. She teaches adults about child development and parenting strategies in both English and Spanish. Sierra continues to dedicate herself to interpreting for Early Childhood Special Education home visits with the Birth-Two team. She is passionate about overcoming barriers that families of different languages and cultural backgrounds face in accessing education.
