**Update: UMTIA will be offering RID credits for this webinar. If you need an interpreter to be able to attend, please email Lucia at abolafiacobo@gmail.com by Wednesday 8/26 at 9:00pm.
Thank you!

DESCRIPTION:

In this webinar, participants will learn common phrases and terminology used to describe the transgender and gender diverse community, as well as definitions and explanations of gender identity in children, adolescents and adults. We will review ways that transgender and gender diverse patients experience barriers to care and are targeted in society, leading to health inequities, along with strategies to improve care and access for transgender and gender diverse folks. We will illustrate ways to provide gender affirming care, and review challenges of interpreting for related medical visits with different communities and languages. A brief overview of gender affirming medical care for children, adolescents and adults will also be provided.

PRESENTER: ANGELA KADE GOEPFERD, MD.

Dr. Angela Kade Goepferd is the Chief Education Officer and Vice Chief of Staff for Children’s Minnesota, the Medical Director of Children’s Minnesota’s Center for Gender Health and a pediatrician in the Children’s Minneapolis Primary Care clinic. Dr. Goepferd has a passion for working with underserved and at-risk kids and families, speaks Spanish and cares for a diverse community of patients in her primary care clinic. She is seen as a leader in the LGBT community who is driving equitable care for LGBT youth, particularly transgender and gender diverse youth and she is a sought after speaker and trainer on these topics. She was awarded an inaugural Business of Pride award from the Minneapolis St. Paul Business Journal in 2018 and a special recognition award from the American Academy of Pediatrics in 2019 for her work advancing care and improving education regarding LGBTQ youth.
