
Translation Workshop:
Avoiding Interference
in English > Spanish Translation
In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn about different types of interference (lexical, syntactical, pragmatic, discursive, stylistic) and will tackle challenges related to them regarding the translation into Spanish of a diversity of texts written in English.
PRESENTER: CLAUDIA GIANNINI
Claudia Giannini has a degree in Translation and Interpreting from the Universidad Central de Venezuela and a graduate degree in Hispanic Linguistics from the University of Minnesota. She has been working as a freelance translator since 1987, both for non-profit organizations and private agencies, and has also worked as an in-house translator for several companies and organizations. She teaches translation at the University of Minnesota (since 2001); she also teaches Spanish, Hispanic culture, and linguistics at Macalester College. She is certified by the American Translators Association (Eng > Span, 2001). Since 2007 she has held different positions on the Executive Board of UMTIA and she is currently its vice-president.
