LINGUA: Delegation for interpreter dignity – Wednesday, October 19 at 2:00pm

Join the interpreter delegation on Wednesday, October 19 at 2pm

Over the past year, LINGUA has been working to increase MN District Court independent interpreter compensation. If we get a raise, it will be the first time in 19 years! We explored passing legislation to get a raise but it turns out that the decision can also be made at the MN Supreme Court and MN State Court Administrator’s Office.

We have been in conversation with them for months. We are proud to report that the MN Supreme Court Chief Justice, Lorie Skjerven Gildea, announced the budget request for 2018 will include funds for an increase in the compensation rate for spoken and sign language interpreters.

This is great news but they haven’t committed to an actual amount. According to cost of living adjustments since 1998, when we got our last raise, in 2014, we should have been making $73.10 as certified interpreters or $58.48 for rostered, not certified. We would like to see this tied to cost of living increases each year.

Join us on October 19th at 2pm to deliver the petition to the MN District Court Administrator, Jeff Shorba. 25 Rev Dr Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard., St Paul, MN 55155.

If you haven’t signed the petition yet, click here and do it now!

See you there!
